Thoughts and Prayers
This body of work composed of 15 pieces was designed to bring awareness to the destructive epidemic of gun violence. I threw series of vases and shot them, while wet, with a variety of real firearms. They were then buried in a pit and pit fired with the wounds intact. The pieces were auctioned in benefit of the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) non-profit, funding gun violence prevention programs for over 750 students.
The series has gained over 2M views on social media and been featured in the following articles:
To create a unique finish, all pieces were pit fired with:
Sawdust, exotic woods, gunpowder, copper wire

A medium sized vase thrown and shot with a .357 magnum handgun. The bullet passed straight through slightly to the left of center, but appears to have entered perpendicularly to the surface due to the sheer energy behind the bullet moving over 1,200 ft/s. The contrast between the entrance and exit shows the incredible damage of bullet expansion.
